Forgotten Scares: An In-depth Look at Flemish Horror Cinema
Overview: The feature-length documentary "Forgotten Scares" goes back to the birth of Flemish horror in the '70s and shines a bright light on the future of horror in Belgium. The viewer gets a chance to discover long forgotten - and even unfinished - genre gems and learn in-depth info about underrated 'splatter and gore'-fests, post-apocalyptic movies, slasher-films, nazisploitation, women-in-prison and other fantastical Flemish genre benders through the eyes of the directors, producers, composers, principal actors and genre experts. "Forgotten Scares" is illustrated by rare behind the scene footage, classic film scenes, production stills, promotional art and even never before seen videos out of the vaults of the filmmakers.
Overview: A young couple travels to a shabby Eastern European hospital for plastic surgery. The young woman wants a breast reduction. Her mother comes along for yet another face-lift. Wandering through an abandoned ward the boyfriend stumbles upon a young woman, gagged and strapped to an operating table; she is the result of an experimental rejuvenation treatment. He frees her, but does not realize he just caused the outbreak of a virus that will change doctors, patients and his mother-in-law into bloodthirsty zombies.
Overview: Second unit director Jonas Govaerts interviews Stanley, principle cast, and the producers about the making of the film. Wonderfully structured, “Hot Pink Horror” takes the audience through why this story was selected, how Stanley became director, how Cage became involved, why they shot the film in Sintra, Portugal, and much more. Even though 20 minutes doesn’t seem like much, Govaerts packs such a great deal of details on production, both creative and technical, that it’s almost a bit like a mini film school. If you really dug Color Out of Space, this is the piece to dive into and enjoy.
