Biography: On March 18, 1894, Buchanan was born in Benton, Iowa, as Paul Stuart Buchanan. The son of a Presbyterian minister, he received his undergraduate degree at Wooster College. He taught English and coached basketball at the University of West Virginia, then switched to Florida University, where he started the school's 5000-watt radio station.
