Biography: Ingrid Birgitta Pettersson is a Swedish stage and screen actress. She made her film debut in "Salka Valka" (1954), and graduated from Malmö City Theatre Academy in 1959. Birgitta Pettersson received international attention in Ingmar Bergman's "Virgin Spring" (1960). The rose as "Karin" was her second film with Bergman.

Overview: Devout Christians Töre and Märeta send their only daughter, the virginal Karin, and their foster daughter, the unrepentant Ingeri, to deliver candles to a distant church. On their way through the woods, the girls encounter a group of savage goat herders who brutally rape and murder Karin as Ingeri remains hidden.
