Experience even something as small as a 15 pound weight loss can have big health benefits. "Wait! Did it just say losing 15 pounds was 'small'?" Fair enough. In the larger scope of things, that amount of weight loss is relatively small, but I am not going to say that it will always be easy.
There is some good news and bad news when it comes to losing weight. The bad news is that there is a lot of misinformation out there about how best to lose weight, and that false information has probably contributed to your extra weight. The good news is that once you know the truth, a 15 pound weight loss is much more possible. With that in mind, here are a few myths about weight loss and what the truth really is.
Myth #1: Low-carb diets are the best way to lose weight. The truth is that you can lose weight using a low-carb diet, but that doesn't mean it's the best way to lose weight. The first problem is that your body needs carbohydrates to function properly, and not eating enough of them can lead to poor health. The second problem is that your body will start to crave carbs, and you may end up binging on carbohydrates, which isn't a good thing. A better way to achieve 15 pound weight loss is to find a diet that lets you eat a wide variety of foods.
Myth #2: Skipping meals reduces your caloric intake. This one is tricky because you will technically be taking in fewer calories at that exact time; however, you will be even hungrier the next time you at, and you will be more likely to consume even more calories. So, even though you may think you are helping yourself to lose weight by skipping the occasional meal, you will actually end up consuming more calories in the long run. Instead of skipping meals, try eating several smaller meals throughout the day. That way you won't get too hungry between meals.
Myth #3: You can eat all you want, of anything you want, as long as you do some extra exercise. This is one of the myths that seems to make sense. All you have to do is "burn off" your extra calories and you will be fine. While it is true that you can expend more calories than you take in, you still need to watch what you eat if you want to experience 15 pound weight loss. Here's why: It is very easy to eat 100s of calories in a few minutes (if you eat 50 potato chips in 5 minutes, that's about 750 calories), but it is nearly impossible to burn the same number of calories in that amount of time. Therefore, you need to combine both diet and exercise if you are serious about losing weight.
Now that you know what the truth is about losing weight, you have a much better chance of reaching a 15 pound weight loss.
