As the fall season arrives we start thinking about the crisp, cool autumn air, the leaves changing to their rainbow of colors, and Halloween. It's fun to remember being a child and wearing a costume to go out trick-or-treating. Going from house to house and getting free candy? What a holiday! Of course, you can still have fun as an adult, and knowing how to make Halloween treats is one way to do it.

Having a Halloween party is a great way to celebrate the holiday, whether you have kids or not. You can enjoy some treats while playing traditional games like bobbing for apples. The Halloween theme should cover everything from decorations to games to the food you serve. All of these things will get people in the spirit of the holiday.

You can make some traditional Halloween treats such as caramel apples, popcorn balls, candied apples, and caramel popcorn. If you like, you can also update traditional party foods with a Halloween touch. This can be as simple as changing the name of a recipe, or decorating it differently to reflect the holiday. For example, chocolate chip cookies could be called chocolate chip spookies. Cupcakes could be frosted with white frosting and have eyes and mouths added with black icing to make tasty ghosts. Be creative, be funny, be scary, but remember to have a good time while doing it.

Here are two simple recipes to give you a bit of inspiration for how to make Halloween treats.

Baking a Tombstone Cake makes a spooky dessert that everyone is sure to love. You will need a box of cake mix (preferably white or chocolate, but any flavor will do), white frosting, black food coloring paste, black icing gel, and a 13-inch by 9-inch cake pan. Bake the cake in the pan according to the directions on the cake mix. Allow the cake to cool for several hours and then carefully remove it from the pan. Cut off two corners and round them on either short end of the cake. This will give you a tombstone shape. Mix a small amount of the black food coloring paste into the white frosting, until you get a gray tombstone color. Use the black gel to write on the "tombstone".

Freaky Edible Fingers are another Halloween treat that will have your guests feeling frightfully delighted. All you need are some hot dogs and refrigerated biscuit dough. Simply cut the hot dogs in half, lengthwise and wrap each half in some of the biscuit dough. Bake according to the directions on the biscuit dough. If you like, you can decorate the finished treats with ketchup and mustard to make them look more like real fingers.

As you can see, how to make Halloween treats is pretty easy. All it takes is looking at your favorite recipes with Halloween in mind, and then changing them in some way. Your guests will enjoy the added touch of having Halloween-themed foods at the party.
